The story you have just read was written after the rest of the Blue Horizon series was created. Blue Horizon 1261 is a prequel, taking place six years prior to the rest of the series, but if you read this story first before reading the further adventures of the Blue Horizon, please be aware that there is a six-year time jump between this tale and the first of the series.  That's a long time for changes with events, situations and personnel.  Your disorientation would be understandable.
